FC Barcelona star Ronald Araujo has agreed to join European rival Juventus according to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, which cited anonymous sources.
The Uruguayan’s contract expires on June 30, 2026. In recent weeks, Relevo reported that Barca warned Araujo midfielder Frenkie de Jong – whose terms run down at the same time – that they will be placed on the transfer market this summer if they haven’t agreed fresh arrangements by the same date this year.
Araujo has had to wait to make his debut in 2024/2025 under Xavi Hernandez’s successor Hansi Flick because of an injury he picked up during a Copa America quarterfinal clash with Uruguay in the United States back in July, which La Celeste won on penalties.
Last weekend, he finally started in the heart of the defense on the German’s watch in a 4-0 Copa del Rey win over Barbastro.
Some Culers didn’t like how open-ended Araujo’s response was with regards to him renewing despite the 25-year-old revealing that talks between the club and his camp are underway.
“We’re talking about it with the club and we hope that it can be resolved. I’m focused on playing again and getting minutes and good feelings,” he first said.
Whe subsequently probed on remaining “100%” at his current club, however, Araujo replied: “We’re talking, we will see how the issue continues.”
According to reports in Italy, however, Araujo has already agreed to join Juventus, which currently can’t call on its injured defender Bremer, in the ongoing winter market.
The Turin giant’s sporting director Cristiano Guintoli reportedly wants the deal to be done as soon as possible. And after getting Araujo’s ‘OK’, it intends to propose a paid loan with an obligation to buy the stalwart from Barca.
Already boasting a Spanish passport works in favor of Juve being able to incorporate Araujo, who faces increased playing time competition from a duo of Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez that has worked well in his absence.
Even if the reports aren’t accurate, this isn’t the first time that Araujo has been linked with a move away from Catalonia after Mundo Deportivo placed him as being sought after by Bayern Munich 12 months ago.
