A company has formally launched, which aims to scale up regenerative farming in Uruguay, Paraguay and beyond.

The Land Group currently manages 40,000 hectares of farmland across the two South American countries, with plans to expand into other territories.

As both asset managers and farmland operators, the Land Group focuses on regenerative agricultural practices that enhance farmland productivity and sustainability.

These practices include adaptive multi-paddock grazing, which has been applied at scale to over 12,000 cattle on seven farms in the Uruguayan savanna.

According to the company, this nature-inspired approach more than doubles cattle stocking rates, boosting efficiency and profitability while also restoring soil health and agricultural ecosystems.

It also uses cover cropping, crop rotation, agroforestry, and rainwater harvesting to further optimise resource efficiency.

The group’s commitment to regenerative agriculture yields highly nutritious, carbon-neutral grass-fed beef, offering a sustainable alternative to grain-fed beef.

The company has been founded by Francisco Roque de Pinho and Joaquín Labella.

Prior to founding the Land Group, Roque de Pinho led several asset management ventures, including in renewable energy.

While Labella is native to Uruguay and regularly travels to the Land Group’s regenerative agriculture sites across South America.

Roque de Pinho said they have developed a model that not only addresses existing assets but also brings in investors develop regenerative farming at scale in an interview.

“We have been doing this for since 2016, so we have we have longevity, we have a track record and good teams,” he told me.

“We feel now is the moment to introduce ourselves to the world.”

Roque de Pinho said the Land Group’s vision for regenerative farming relies on minimizing soil disturbance, diversifying crops and integrating them with holistic animal management.

“We are not reinventing the wheel,” he added.

“We are just using modern techniques, modern equipment, and modular water distribution systems to dynamically management the land.

“By applying those very simple techniques, we can essentially double or triple the cattle stocking rate of the land, and therefore double or triple the investment return on the land,” added Roque de Pinho.

Labella said the company’s goal is to work with institutional investors, who have a long-term view of returns in an interview.

“As I always tell my team, 95% of the wealth we manage for clients is in the land, that’s why the key here is to really improve the soil, make it richer, and more productive and efficient,” he added.

In addition, Roque de Pinho said the skills and the experience they have developed in Uruguay and Paraguay are “transferable” and their ambition is “to be a global asset manager focused on regenerative agriculture”.

He added they are looking at expanding into Portugal in the coming months.

Roberto Vitón, director of Valoral Advisors in Luxembourg natural grasslands are an important economic resource that has historically been underappreciated by investors in a statement.

“However, with advancements in regenerative grazing, it is now possible to sustainably and efficiently produce some of the world’s finest beef with a carbon-neutral footprint,” said Vitón.

“This creates a compelling opportunity for farmland investments in natural grasslands, combining financial returns with environmental stewardship.”
