The Latin American Poultry Congress was renamed OVUM for the 2019 edition of the event in Lima, Peru. The following OVUM took place in September 2022 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and now it is Uruguay’s turn to host the 28th edition in Punta del Este.
Traditionally, the Latin American Poultry Congress has been the main event for the poultry industry in the region to gather. I must say it is almost imperative to go.
With Uruguay hosting, it is the first time this small country can show what they are made of.
Uruguay’s poultry industry is rather small. In 2023, broiler production was at 31.7 million broilers, and the country had 3.8 million layers in production. In terms of consumption, the country is still a high beef consumer, but poultry stands at 24 kg per capita. However, in egg consumption, it stands in fourth place in Latin America with 296 eggs per capita, more than many countries in the world.
OVUM will take place November 12-15 at the Punta del Este Convention Center. The opening ceremony will be held on Tuesday evening, and, between Wednesday and Friday, a series of presentations and a trade show will be available. There are already more than 170 companies from 23 countries participating, and up to 3,000 attendees are expected. And 70% of the booths have been sold since 2022.
Registration opened several months ago, but I should point out that it includes three lunches, coffee breaks, transportation to and from hotels, three social events, as well as entrance to conferences with simultaneous translation. You may want to attend only the trade show, which includes all of the above (but not the conferences), for a lower rate.
Uruguay has many direct flights from different countries as well as lots of connections from Panama and all of the neighboring countries. In fact, Copa Airlines is the official airline, and you can get a discount in airfare by requesting it at [email protected].
Punta del Este is a world-renowned resort, where people can stroll around in peace and enjoy a perfect spring temperature in November.
Once, Joaquín Fernández, president of the Latin American Poultry Association, told me that this is a “great opportunity to go to a quiet and very beautiful country like Uruguay, a place of pleasure and joy, and very peaceful.”
So, let’s go down south in November!
