So when do we spring forward again and why? Here’s what you should know:
When did we fall back as daylight saving time ends?
Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November. This year, the date to fall back is Sunday, Nov. 3.
When is daylight saving time in 2025?
Daylight saving time will start on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Clocks will spring forward one hour to 3 a.m. when the short hand strikes 2 a.m., according to TimeandDate.com.Â
This change will be in effect until Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 a.m., when clocks are scheduled to fall back to 1 a.m. and daylight saving time ends.Â
Why do we practice daylight saving time? Â
The idea behind daylight saving time is that it allows us to use natural daylight better, according to Almanac.com.Â
Moving clocks forward one hour in the spring provides more daylight in the evenings during the warmer months. Moving clocks back one hour in the fall provides more daylight during the winter mornings.
Advocates of the practice say brighter afternoons and early evenings help stimulate the economy, though the practice originally began to save fuel during World War I, according to Almanac.com.Â
Despite the seemingly simple solution, daylight saving time has faced opposition in recent years, with many wanting to do away with the practice.Â
Who observes daylight saving time?  Â
Over 70 countries use daylight saving time, fewer than 40% of all countries in the world, and many have different beginning and end dates. More than 1 billion people participate in the phenomenon each year, according to timeanddate.com. Â
The only U.S. regions to not participate in daylight saving time are Hawaii, parts of Arizona, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Â
Do all countries observe daylight saving time?
We’re not alone in falling back and springing forward. Besides the U.S., daylight saving time is observed by other countries in North America, Europe and parts of Africa and Asia in the Northern Hemisphere summer, and in parts of South America and Oceania in the Southern Hemisphere summer, which is the opposite.
Will daylight saving time end permanently in US?
Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida is making another move to stop us from changing the clocks with the Sunshine Protection Act.
The senator suggested the nation “stop enduring the ridiculous and antiquated practice of switching our clocks back and forth. Let’s finally pass my Sunshine Protection Act and end the need to ‘fall back’ and ‘spring forward’ for good.”
In 2022, the U.S. Senate passed the Sunshine Protection Act. However, the act wasn’t a priority in the House of Representatives and there was a disagreement as to whether daylight saving time or standard time should be the law of the land, according to The Hill.
In the end, the sun set on the legislation, which never made it to President Joe Biden’s desk.
