Kmart, one of America’s iconic retail chains, is shutting down its last full-sized store.
The store, located in Bridgehampton, New York, will close its doors for good on Oct. 20, 2024, according to WJAR. This closing comes just a little over a year after the last Kmart in N.J. closed in August 2023.
Real estate investment trust Kimco Realty Corp, which owns the shopping center the Kmart is located in, confirmed that the store would shut its doors.
The Kmart in Bridgehampton opened its doors in 1996 and quickly established itself in the community as a shopping destination.
Martha Stewart was one of the store’s local clients and established a partnership with the retailer through her “Martha Stewart Everyday” line of products.
A small-scale Kmart located in Florida will remain open, but that store has a footprint more akin to convenience stores and not a regular Kmart, according to The Miami Herald.
Kmart will still operate several smaller stores outside the 50 states in the U.S. territories of the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam.
