BRIDGEHAMPTON, N.Y. (CNN/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – The last full-size Kmart has closed its doors.
The last full-size Kmart store on the United States mainland closed its doors for good on Sunday. Located in Bridgehampton, New York, this closure marks the end of an era for the once-dominant retail chain.
After the Bridgehampton store closes, only a smaller Kmart with limited items will remain in Miami. Additionally, there are a couple of Kmart stores still operating in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam.
Kmart, known for its “Blue-Light Specials,” began in the late 19th century and later became a leader in the discount retail market. However, in 2002, the company filed for bankruptcy protection, becoming the largest U.S. retailer to do so at the time.
YouTuber Fleabitten Adventures uploaded a walkaround of the closing Kmart location back in September.
“This place isn’t scheduled to close anytime soon, but something feels off about it,” Fleabitten Adventures wrote at the time.
With the Bridgehampton store’s closure, Kmart joins Blockbuster in operating one final location in America.
