ArtFest set for Saturday at Mount Union
ALLIANCE – The University of Mount Union will host the 60th annual ArtFest on Saturday. The event will be held around the Campus Lakes and will include live music and vendors. This year’s event is held in conjunction with the Carnation City Food Truck Rally and the Mount Union vs. John Carroll football game.
Cash awards and ribbons will be presented to the top artists in the Artisan Village in each category (fine art and functional art) and a Best of Show. In addition, there will be awards presented in the junior and collegiate categories along with a People’s Choice award. Awards are given for original works only and at the discretion of the judges.

Hear about treks to national parks
ALLIANCE – Hartville resident Tom Wright will talk at the Rodman Public Library at 1 p.m. Saturday about how he visited all 428 national parks in less than one calendar year.
Wright will detail his remarkable 123,000-mile journey when he presents “One Year … One Quest: A World Record Trek.” Wright traveled from the country’s four corners of Guam, Alaska, the Virgin Islands, and Maine, crisscrossing the continental United States.

Carryout Swiss steak dinner Saturday
BEACH CITY – Beach City American Legion Hall Post 549, 125 Third Ave. NE, will have a drive-thru carryout Swiss steak dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. (or when the food runs out) Saturday. Watch for signs where to enter. The meal includes three-bean salad, applesauce, mashed potatoes with homemade gravy, corn, bread and dessert for $12.
Stark native’s movie to premiere at Palace
CANTON – The Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N, will host the premiere of the movie “Takedown,” written and directed by actor Eddie McClintock, who was born in Canton and graduated from North Canton’s Hoover High School, at 3 p.m. Sept. 22.
Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Admission is $10. The film is based on McClintock’s high school years as a troubled teen balancing life between the wrestling mat and his passion for the arts.
A private VIP event starts at 2 p.m., hosted by McClintock and Dean Cain, and includes hors d’ouevres and reserved seating in theater. The cost is $50 per person.

Fathers Walk Your Child to School Day is Thursday
CANTON – Stark County Job & Family Services and the Stark County Fatherhood Coalition will hold the annual Fathers Walk Your Child to School Day on Thursday. This event invites fathers and other significant role models to walk or drive their child to school, to show support for their education and demonstrate the important role they play in their child’s life.
Representatives will greet fathers and students at participating schools in the Canton, Massillon, Plain, and Alliance school districts. Fathers are invited to share their photos on social media using the tag #StarkFathersWalk. The Fatherhood Coalition will share photos and updates throughout the morning from its Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/StarkCountyFatherhoodCoalition.

Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health fundraiser Saturday
CANTON – Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health’s 19th annual Let Your Light Shine event, themed “Tropical Paradise,” will be Saturday at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 320 Market Ave. S.
The event will include a plated dinner and desserts, a tropical-themed ambiance and a variety of live auction items. A video presentation will showcase the stories of agency’s student mental health champions. The event will feature a grand raffle ticket drawing with a chance to win $1,500. Tickets are available for $10 each, and you need not be present to win.
The funds raised during the evening support services and programs for children and young adults to the age of 24. Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health supports more than 4,100 children in Stark County dealing with emotional, behavioral and trauma-related challenges. The agency also provides school-based services across 50 Stark County school buildings.
Artist to visit, wants to learn about old local barns
JACKSON TWP. − Dr. Robert Kroeger, a Cincinnati-based artist, author and barn history buff, will visit the Jackson Township Historical Society, 7756 Fulton Drive NW, at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Kroeger wants to create paintings of the historic barns in the area. He is in search of old barns (built prior to 1930) and their stories. His paintings will go into fundraisers for the historical society – as will sales of his books, “Historic Barns of Ohio” and “Round Barns of America.”

Oktobeerfest Run fundraiser Sept. 28
WASHINGTON TWP. – Beech Creek Gardens & Raptor Hallow Sanctuary, 11929 Beech St. NE, will host an Oktobeerfest Run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 28. The run features a one-mile fun run/walk through the gardens of Beech Creek where every quarter mile, contestants will receive a beer, wine cooler, seltzer, non-alcoholic beverage, or water. Contestants can run, walk, or race through a 1-mile course. Check-in is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Runners must register by Friday. All proceeds will support the missions of Beech Creek Gardens and Raptor Hallow Sanctuary. The cost is $40 ($35 for college students). Chorus for a Cause benefit concerts next weekend
A Chorus for a Cause will present two concerts next weekend. Saturday’s concert will be at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 206 Cherry Road NE in Massillon. The Sept. 22 concert will be at 4 p.m. at Uniontown United Methodist Church, 13370 Cleveland Ave. NW in Lake Township. The concerts are free, but a portion of all donations will be given to Simply Give.
Simply Give is a local nonprofit that encourages random acts of kindness and promotes community outreach. The nonprofit donates chemotherapy care bags to women battling cancer and undergoing treatment in Stark County. Simply Give also hosts events to benefit other women in need.
