Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville endorses Rick Scott for majority leader: ‘America First agenda…now’

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., said he is backing Sen. Rick Scott of Florida for Senate majority leader.

“The nation delivered a mandate on Tuesday,” Tuberville wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday. “They want @realdonaldtrump’s America First agenda, and they want it now.”

Senate Minority Whip John Thune of South Dakota and Sen. John Cornyn of Texas are also running for the position.

“Senator Rick Scott represents millions of Americans from Alabama to California who voted for a unified Republican government. I’m proud to support @scottforflorida for Majority Leader,” Tuberville wrote.

AL.com has not received a response from Alabama Sen. Katie Britt on her endorsement.

The Republican Party gained control of the chamber after four years in the minority following Tuesday’s election. Former President Donald J. Trump also won a second term. As of Sunday evening, Republicans control 53 Senate seats, according to The Associated Press.

Last week, Tuberville said he will remain in the Senate instead of taking up an appointment with the incoming Trump administration.

The vote for majority leader is scheduled for Wednesday and the current minority leader, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky is not seeking reelection.
