Aliens v America: Which states would survive an alien invasion?

Just in time for Halloween, with the release of ‘Alien: Romulus’ adding extraterrestrial chills to our screens, a recent report sheds light on a much more grounded question: Could we survive an actual alien invasion? In collaboration with experts, Rant Casino has analysed various factors to determine which U.S. states are best equipped to handle such a scenario. As discussions about UFOs become mainstream, especially after the first-ever police handbook on UFO encounters was issued, the possibility of an alien encounter has moved from sci-fi to a topic of real interest.

The analysis looked at everything from military personnel to natural hideouts, forest and water coverage, and even food manufacturing infrastructure to assess the survival prospects of each state.

The Top 3 States Best Equipped to Survive an Alien InvasionVirginia
Topping the list with an overall survival score of 8.03/10, Virginia ranks as the state most prepared for an alien invasion. Its low UFO sighting rate—just 3.13 per 10,000—combined with a significant military presence (17.23 per 1,000 residents) makes it an ideal candidate for defense and coordination during an invasion. Additionally, the state offers ample natural hideouts, with 29 caves and 0.63% forest coverage, far surpassing neighbouring Maryland.

Alabama
Coming in second with a score of 7.9/10, Alabama has one of the lowest UFO sighting rates in the top ten (2.76 per 10,000). It boasts a high number of law enforcement officers (267.35 per 1,000), nearly doubling the amount in states like Oregon. Alabama also benefits from its 35 caves and 0.71% forest coverage, offering concealment from potential aerial threats.

Minnesota
Ranking third with a survival score of 7.83/10, Minnesota’s strong intellectual resources could prove vital. The state has the second-highest number of scientists (5.07 per 1,000) and engineers (10.12 per 1,000) among the top states, which could be key in innovating survival strategies. Minnesota’s low population density would also reduce strain on healthcare services, which are among the best in the top ten, with 32.01 healthcare professionals per 1,000 residents.

Coming in close behind these three states were Massachusetts, New York, Florida, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Alaska and Georgia. If you’ve ever watched ‘The Walking Dead’ you’ll know that Georgia is the best place to be in the event of a Zombie apocalypse but now Rant have confirmed you’ll do OK there in an alien invasion too!

The Least Prepared States for an Alien InvasionNevada
Despite its notoriety for UFO sightings, Nevada ranks as the least prepared state for an alien invasion, with a survival score of 5.31/10. The state’s lack of natural hideouts—no caves and minimal forest cover—combined with a dry climate and a low number of food manufacturers make it vulnerable. Interestingly, Nevada also has a relatively high UFO sighting rate of 5.41 per 10,000.

Idaho
Idaho places second-to-last with a score of 5.66/10, due to high UFO sighting rates (6.95 per 10,000) and limited essential survival resources, such as water coverage and healthcare professionals.UFO Sightings and National Security

As UFO sightings increase across the world, former Ministry of Defence UFO investigator Nick Pope commented on the growing relevance of the topic, stating, “UFOs are now being treated as a defence and national security issue, discussed in the United States Congress.” Whether these sightings represent a genuine spike or simply better reporting due to media coverage, the implications for national security and defence are becoming harder to ignore.

While the possibility of an alien invasion may still seem far-fetched, the readiness of U.S. states to handle such an event is worth considering, especially with UFOs entering the mainstream conversation. Whether you live in a highly-prepared state like Virginia or a vulnerable one like Nevada, this Halloween may have you wondering—are we really ready for what’s out there?
