Alabama football has an initial idea of where it stands in the eyes of the College Football Playoff selection committee.
In the first CFP rankings of the new 12-team playoff, the Crimson Tide landed at No. 11. Alabama is one of four SEC teams in the top 12 along with No. 3 Georgia, No. 5 Texas and No. 7 Tennessee.
According to the first set of rankings, the Crimson Tide would face Texas in the first round of the CFP in Austin either Dec. 20 or 21.
Alabama, ranked No. 11 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Poll, will take on LSU, which is ranked No. 15 in the first CFP rankings, Saturday night at Tiger Stadium.

Alabama is currently projected to face Texas in Austin either Dec. 20 or 21.
How many teams in College Football Playoff 2024?
At the end of the 2024 regular season, 12 teams will make the College Football Playoff.
The first four teams — the four highest-ranked conference champions — will earn a first-round bye. Teams ranked No. 5-8 will host teams ranked 9-12 in the first round and for a spot in the CFP quarterfinal.

The next set of CFP rankings will be released at approximately 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 between NCAA men’s basketball games at the Champions Classic.
