Heavy Rainfall Expected & Flash Flooding Possible Across Alabama

Heavy Rainfall Expected & Flash Flooding Possible Across Alabama

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Flood Watch for portions of Alabama. This watch runs until Sunday, September 15, at 7:00 a.m.

The risk of flash flooding will persist all day, as the remnants of Francine are likely to produce heavy rain bands that will pass over the regions that have been experiencing rain recently.

“Some areas could receive several rounds and several inches of rain, while others receive much lower amounts,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

The primary concern is heavy rainfall ranging from 3 to 5 inches, with some areas experiencing even greater amounts, which may result in flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and urban regions.

Potential Impacts

“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham. “Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.”
