Ohio State sophomore safety Caleb Downs became a consensus All-American on Monday.
Downs was named to the first-team by the Associated Press, one of the five used by the NCAA in order to determine consensus and unanimous status for players.
The American Football Coaches Association and Walter Camp Football Foundation had previously recognized Downs as a first-team selection last week.
In his first year with the Buckeyes after transferring from Alabama, he had 62 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and an interception.
If he is named to the first-teams by the Football Writers Association of American and Sporting News later this week, Downs could achieve unanimous status.
Downs is Ohio State’s first defensive player to be a consensus All-American since cornerback Shaun Wade in 2020.
Cornerback Jeff Okudah and defensive end Chase Young were the last defenders to be unanimous in 2019.
