Open Letter To All Alabama Folks Who Are Done Tipping!

Open Letter To All Alabama Folks Who Are Done Tipping!

I simply am removing myself from the tipping system.

I can’t be the only one in Alabama who feels it is time to end this tipping madness.
Please understand this has nothing to do with the many, many excellent and hard-working people who deserve a tip.

I can think of several categories that fit the bill.

Those would be the food industry workers (servers mainly), the individual who cuts and styles your hair, bar staffers, Uber drivers, Food delivery drivers, and your postal worker at Christmas time.

I realize that I may have forgotten one or two folks that should be on the list, but I am tired of every single place that I do business sticking an iPad in my face with a percentage to pick from to leave a tip.

Borrowing a few comments from a Reddit post that I agree with, tipping culture in Alabama and the USA has gotten completely ridiculous.

Here’s the post I agree with from Reddit.

I am far from a tightwad or someone that is considered “cheap“.

I come from a very generous family and I was raised that giving and being generous is a Godly expression of your faith.

I don’t think that means I need to be taken advantage of,  just because I have a soft heart and am generous.

These days there is a definite strange vibe that tries to force us all to tip in places that we really do not typically do so.

Recently, I had an experience at a coffee shop and the barista put an iPad in my face and expected a tip. I’ve never really had that happen in such a manner before.
A couple of days later, I was at the Birmingham airport and I did the Self check out for a couple of sandwiches at $30 and it asked me to leave a tip! What?

SELF CHECK OUT!
Why should I tip after doing the work myself? This is beginning to really upset me. I don’t really think it should apply when you get a to-go order and the person at the restaurant is simply handing you a bag.

I watched what happened and that individual had very little to do with even placing the items in the bag yet they still expect money from me?!?!

I prefer to use the self-check out at grocery stores in Northport and Tuscaloosa and I am certain any day now a tip will be expected when I ring up my own groceries and bag them myself.

Tipping cashiers? The only thing they did was press a button or two and then they expect me to tip.
I even think it’s a bit strange when I get ice cream at the Marble Slab Creamery in Northport and I’m given my ice cream cone and ANOTHER screen is put in front of me with the expectation that I will leave a tip.
What is their salary for?

Isn’t it to scoop ice cream for customers?

In many cases the job that was done is absolutely not worthy of a tip in any way some have seen below-average service and then a hand sticking out waiting for something.

I think next time I’m going to just slap them on the hand and give them five….FINGERS!
