On Saturday, November 2, 2024, the United Sisterhood of Alabama will hold a rally on the steps of the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The event, titled “Her Voice! Her Power!”, aims to spotlight a wide range of critical issues impacting women across Alabama, including healthcare access, reproductive rights, economic equity, education, and civil rights.
The rally will feature an impressive lineup of speakers from various organizations, including Stephen Stetson from Planned Parenthood, Jenice Fountain from the Yellowhammer Fund, Tafeni English-Relf of the Southern Poverty Law Center, and Adia Winfrey from Transform Alabama. Additional speakers include Nikesha Tilton of Moms Demand Action, Courtney Jones of the ACLU, and Reverend Carolyn Foster of the Poor People’s Campaign. Former Miss America Marlorry Hagan, congressional candidates Shomari Figures and Elizabeth Anderson, and IVF advocate Ashleigh Dunham will also share their insights and experiences.
The event seeks to galvanize women across the state, providing a platform for voices that are often marginalized, and calling for legislative and social change to improve the lives of Alabama’s women. Topics such as the importance of the Latina vote, adolescent sexual health, and the support for survivors of domestic violence will also be addressed, further highlighting the comprehensive nature of the rally’s goals.
“Our efforts are driven by a desire to foster a society where women’s rights are protected, and where every woman has the chance to live with dignity and freedom,” the United Sisterhood of Alabama said in a statement.
