Skip Bayless, the patriarch of debate television, has never been afraid to dig in and express his opinion no matter how outlandish or unpopular, especially when it comes to one of his favorite teams.
The former First Take and Undisputed commentator came to the defense of his alma mater, Vanderbilt, this week after former Alabama head coach Nick Saban’s comments stating that it wasn’t a difficult place to play.
“The only place you play in the SEC that’s not hard to play in Vanderbilt,” Saban said during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “You have more fans than they have. That’s no disrespect to them. It’s the truth.”
History has proved that Vanderbilt hasn’t been able to consistently compete at a high level in the SEC which is where Bayless conceded to Saban during a response on X.
“OK, Nick Saban just stated the obvious,” Bayless said. “My school Vanderbilt is the easiest place to play at in the SEC in football. Not in baseball, not in golf. But in football, I’ll give you that because these football factory juggernauts, with these huge traveling fan bases, yeah, they’ll probably have more fans buy out tickets.”
But Bayless, in tongue-in-cheek fashion (probably), highlighted the Commodores’ academic prowess.
“When it comes to quality of education, the rest of the SEC isn’t even in our league,” Bayless said. “When it comes to admission requirements, my school Vanderbilt, the best school in America, is slumming to be in the SEC with the Alabama’s of the world.”
