According to a statement from the University of Alabama on Thursday, Alabama football fans should expect heightened security for the Crimson Tide’s next home game against Georgia on Sept. 28.
The university was notified that former president Donald Trump plans to attend the Alabama-Georgia game at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at Bryant-Denny Stadium after receiving an invitation from a private citizen. A Washington-based person with knowledge of Trump’s campaign schedule informed the Tuscaloosa News on Monday of the decision.
Trump, who held the office from 2017-21, is currently the Republican nominee for president.
“The safety of our campus is and will remain our top priority, and UAPD will work closely with the U.S. Secret Service and other law enforcement partners to coordinate security,” the University of Alabama’s statement reads.

Increased security expected for Alabama football vs. Georgia
According to the university, “additional safety measures” will be put into place for Alabama-Georgia Sept. 28.
“Like for every UA football game, walk-through metal detectors will be in place and the clear bag policy will be strictly enforced,” the statement continues. “Additional safety measures will be enacted in collaboration with local and federal agencies, so fans are encouraged to arrive early to expedite the security screening process.”
Gates for home football games at Bryant-Denny Stadium usually open two hours before kickoff. Alabama-Georgia is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff Sept. 28.
According to the university “a 360-degree security perimeter” is in place for all Alabama football home games. Fans can access the stadium through any security checkpoint and walk to their gate.
“The University’s focus will continue to be ensuring a safe and positive gameday experience for the student-athletes, fans of both teams, and all campus visitors,” the University of Alabama statement reads.
