Alaska Airlines Confirms Its Most Frequent Flyer Has Earned Over 3 Million Miles

Summary

Milestone Achieved: The first passenger in Alaska Airlines history to reach 3 million miles.
Benefits Galore: Reaching 1 million miles grants lifetime elite status, bonuses, and perks.
Future Excitement: More celebrations are planned as the Airline continues to innovate for sustainability.

Today, the US carrier Alaska Airlines confirmed that its most loyal customer has accumulated over three million miles with the airline. During a recent flight from Orlando to Seattle, Stephen Routh of Anchorage, Alaska, was recognized with a selection of special gifts and a welcome fit for a rock star.

Passing the mark

The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan frequent flyer program has a Million Miler tier, but this is the first time one of its customers has achieved the milestone three times. According to Routh, he was flying back from visiting his ailing sister in Orlando when he hit the three million mile mark.

Routh confirmed that his sister Jan is doing “much better now!”

The Alaska Airlines crew and team went into overdrive to celebrate this occasion. Routh was welcomed with a ceremonial priority boarding, infight cake (presumably shared with the other passengers?), and commemorative luggage tags made from an upcycled 1976 Convair CV-240 that previously flew for the airline.

“So, after a few years of flying with my favorite airline, Alaska Airlines, I passed over the 3,000,000 mile mark Wednesday. Turns out I’m the first passenger to hit that mark in Alaska’s history (which began in 1932).

“The Orlando station crew was very gracious and had brought in a cake for passengers, a clown hat for me, balloons, a ceremonial boarding ahead of everyone else, a cool luggage tag, boarding pass signed by the crew, and lots of care and attention.”

When reached by Simple Flying, the airline confirmed that Routh had surpassed the epic milestone and that it has “more to share in the coming weeks.” Routh, meanwhile, indicated the airline is planning another celebration in a few weeks, which will be attended by airline executives, friends, and family.

Reaching a million miles

Passengers who reach one million miles with Alaska Airlines are offered a range of benefits. The perks include a complimentary meal or picnic pack whenever meals are served in the Main Cabin and an annual bonus of 20,000 elite-qualifying miles. The biggest perk comes from lifetime MVP Gold Elite Status, which provides Sapphire status in the oneworld alliance. Million milers can also share their status with a member of their household, for life.

All Million Miler achievers keep a top status with the airline for life.

Upon reaching two million miles, frequent flyers are awarded MVP Gold 75K status (oneworld Emerald), which brings additional benefits such as access to additional lounges. It could be presumed that passing three million miles would entail acquiring the airline’s top-tier status, MVP Gold 100K, which brings further benefits. Either way, Routh is excited to continue flying with the airline in the future, noting:

“I have received such good service from Alaska Airlines over the years. Although it has certainly grown, it still retains the friendly, helpful, Northwest vibe.”

Elsewhere, the carrier is continuing to expand its future options with an investment in JetZero’s new Blended-Wing Body aircraft, which could potentially significantly reduce emissions.
