ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Leaving the 2024 Paris Olympic Games with three medals between them, Eagle River’s Alev Kelter and Homer’s Kristen Faulkner were honored this week alongside Team USA in Washington D.C.
Faulkner and Kelter were in attendance for a visit to the White House on Monday, posting selfies with President Joe Biden to their respective social media pages.
“The White House hosted Team USA athletes, both Olympic and Paralympic! Thank you for the hospitality and support,” Kelter wrote.
“We’re the only nation to think anything is possible when we set our minds to do it. That’s what all of you embody,” President Joe Biden said in regard to the athletes. “Thank you. Thank you for representing the very best of America.”
Biden also took time to express excitement for the 2028 Summer Games, set to be hosted in Los Angeles, California.
Kelter told Alaska’s News Source in August that while she hopes to be competing in 2028 in LA, the Paris games could be her last.
Faulkner, meanwhile, could compete with the hopes of achieving more Olympic glory. She earned gold in both the Women’s Road Race and Team Pursuit in cycling.
“I said I’d only do the road race if I felt strong and felt I had a chance of a medal,” Faulkner said during the Paris Games. “I knew that it would be a really tough race but if I was racing, I was racing to win.”
