Activating the Valley 🔥

Big thanks to our partners at @santanford for partnering with @SunAngelNIL and providing select players with a brand new Ford Mustang Mach-E! #ForksUp /// #ActivateTheValley pic.twitter.com/fubZw04RlE

Who needed the cars was a big factor in deciding which players were chosen, as none of the seven had cars prior. Plus, Hovik wanted to pick players who can represent his company well, which Brown personifies as a Barrett Honors student.

“I really just had to wait until I could actually see it come to fruition, and it was more than I could imagine. It was bigger than what I thought it was,” Brown said. “I appreciate Tim Hovik just for what he’s doing for us and the collective and how he made this happen.”

ASU athletic director Graham Rossini said the deal took months to put together, checking boxes with the university’s compliance department along with the insurance side of it.

“It’s special when somebody actually says he’s going to do something and does it, regardless of the obstacles,” head coach Kenny Dillingham said.

He was already thinking about ways the cars can benefit the team on the field, like players having easier access to get extra work in on weights or in the film room.

Hovik said the reason for choosing the electric Mustang Mach-E was to align with ASU’s reputation of innovation.

“(ASU has) won multiple awards over the years for ingenuity and forward thinking in the future, and I think electric vehicles are kind of along that path,” Hovik said. “I know (ASU president Michael Crow) has talked about the campus vehicles … transitioning over to electric, so we felt like it was kind of lockstep for us.”

As part of a presentation to other boosters, Hovik called on other business owners to make similar steps in support of ASU.

“We don’t want those to be the only vehicles that our student-athletes have,” Hovik said. “We want to open this up and we want to inspire the business community within Sun Devil nation. Come be a part of this.”

Deals like this are a great way for smaller businesses who can’t become university partners to still get involved with ASU athletics, Rossini added.
