ASU running back Cam Skattebo talks about his game against Mississippi State
ASU running back Cam Skattebo on his team’s final drive against Mississippi State; “I didn’t think anybody was going to stop us.”
Cam Skattebo’s career night has earned him much-deserved accolades.
The 5-foot-11, 210-pound senior ran for a career-high 262 yards on 33 carries to lead the Sun Devils to a 30-23 win over Mississippi State Saturday at Mountain America Stadium. He also caught three passes for 35 yards in helping Kenny Dillingham’s team to a first-ever win over an SEC opponent.
Skattebo’s 33 carries are the FBS single-game high this season. His final run was his longest. He covered 39 yards to the Mississippi State 12 and slid to the turf, allowing the Sun Devils to run out the clock after the Bulldogs had pulled within a score with five minutes left.
Skattebo had 12 runs of at least 10 yards during the game — and that also serves as a season-total best in the nation.
It marked the second-highest rushing total in program history behind Eno Benjamin’s 312 yards against Oregon State in the fourth game of the 2018 season.
The Big 12 player of the week honors will be announced later Monday.
Skattebo and the Sun Devils look to improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2019 when they hit the road for the first time with a Thursday game coming up at Texas State (2-0).
