MARANA, Ariz. (TNND) — At least two people were killed Wednesday during an “aircraft collision” near a southern Arizona airport, according to authorities.
Federal air-safety investigators said two people were on board each plane as they collided near Marana Regional Airport on the outskirts of Tucson.
The Marana Police Department said officers were at the scene.
“Details are limited at this time,” police wrote on Facebook shortly after 12 noon.
Police added that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as well as the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), responded. The NTSB later confirmed it is investigating the collision, which occurred on the outskirts of Tucson.
There have been several aviation disasters in North America in the last month, including another deadly crash in Arizona earlier in February.
A pilot was killed and several others were hurt when the jet he was flying crashed into a plane along a runway at Scottsdale Airport in Arizona on Feb. 10, according to authorities.
A few days prior, a small commuter plane crashed in Alaska on its way to the hub community of Nome. All 10 people on board were killed.
On Jan. 29, 67 people on an American Airlines passenger were killed when an Army Black Hawk helicopter collided with the plane in Washington, D.C.
Just days later, a medical transportation plane crashed in Philadelphia, killing the six people on board and another person on the ground. Nineteen others were hurt.
A Delta jet flipped on its roof while landing in Toronto on Monday. No one was killed, but several people were hurt.
