In a bid to boost swing-state turnout for Donald Trump, Elon Musk says he’ll pay $47 to anyone who refers an Arizona voter to sign a pro-Trump petition supporting the First and Second amendments.
Musk made the time-limited offer on X, his social media platform, calling it “easy money.”
The petition is sponsored by the America PAC, which Musk founded. It asks signers in seven swing states to “pledge their support for the First and Second amendments. In addition to the pledge, it asks signers to refer the petition to registered voters. The reward: a $47 bounty for each referred person who signs the pledge.
The petition states the America PAC will verify the accuracy of the participating voters before issuing any payments.
The offer, which runs until Oct. 21, got a mostly enthusiastic reception on X. But count the Maricopa County Republican Committee skeptical.

“Provide personal data to sign a pledge of support for what’s already in the Constitution, and, to top it off, it’s being monetized. Right. ???” the committee wrote in reply to the Musk offer.
In Arizona, it is illegal to pay for each signature on an initiative and referendum petition. It does not apply to private petitions, such as the one America PAC is promoting.
Besides Arizona, the offer applies to Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, all swing states where the margins in the presidential race between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are extremely narrow.
