Stellantis to close large car testing facility in northwestern Arizona

YUCCA, AZ (AZFamily) — A massive testing and production facility in the Arizona desert is set to close, according to multiple reports.

Stellantis, the car company behind brands like Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep, is reportedly closing and selling the Arizona Proving Grounds, a 4,000-acre testing facility that Chrysler bought in 2007.

The proving grounds specializes in hot weather testing and is located near Yucca, which is off of Interstate 40 between Kingman and Lake Havasu City in northwestern Arizona.

According to CNBC, the Arizona Proving Grounds will close by the end of this year, but it’s unclear if there is a buyer.

There are more than 40 employees who work at the facility, which has 70 lane miles of road surface and an 18-acre “vehicle dynamics area.”

Stellantis will reportedly use a proving ground owned by Toyota in Wittmann once the other one is closed.

The Stellantis leadership team has been under fire after suffering big financial losses, including a 20% drop in sales during quarter 3 of 2024.
