Ahead of the return of the Eras Tour in Miami, Florida, Taylor Swift has donated $5 million to Feeding America for Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene relief efforts, the organization shared on Oct. 9.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift for her generous $5 million donation to Hurricanes Helene and Milton relief efforts,” Feeding America CEO Babineaux-Fontenot wrote in a statement on the organization’s Instagram. “This contribution will help communities rebuild and recover, providing essential food, clean water, and supplies to people affected by these devastating storms. Together, we can make a real impact in supporting families as they navigate the challenges ahead. Thank you, Taylor, for standing with us in the movement to end hunger and for helping communities in need.”
After making landfall in September, Hurricane Helene left catastrophic damage across several states in the southeastern U.S., and more than 230 people have died so far, CNN reports. Hurricane Milton, meanwhile, has already started to unleash heavy rain and wind in Florida; more than 50 counties have evacuation orders in place.
Swift has focused on food-based organizations throughout the Eras Tour; from March 2023 to August 2024, she “donated the equivalent of hundreds of thousands of meals” to Americans, the Associated Press reported. The AP talked to representatives from food banks in Colorado, Georgia, and Minnesota who talked about the positive effects of her donations, both monetarily and in terms of exposure. “Taylor Swift’s donation certainly helped at a time when we’re seeing the need climb and climb and climb,” Arizona Food Bank Network representative Terri Shoemaker told CNN last year. She has also donated to food banks in Europe as the tour traveled across the continent this summer.
The Tortured Poets Department singer has pitched in for disaster relief previously, sending $1 million to the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund after deadly tornadoes struck the area in December 2023.
Swift is set to perform three nights in Miami starting Friday, Oct 18, 2024.
