$65M in new shares

America's Car-Mart said recently it will sell $65 million in its common stock as part of an underwritten public offering.

The sale is for 1,700,000 shares at the public price of $43 per share with underwriters having a 30-day option to purchase an additional 255,000 shares at the public offering price, less discounts and commissions, the company said Thursday.

The funds will be used to repay a portion of the balance on its revolving debt facilities, the Rogers-based buy-here, pay-here used car dealer said in a news release. Any remaining proceeds will be used for general purposes.

Shares tumbled on the news to close at $43.12, down $6.83 or nearly 14%. Shares have traded as low as $40.60 and as high as $93.63 over the past year.

The company notes there is no guarantee the offer will be completed.

Earlier this month, Car-Mar reported a first-quarter loss for its fiscal year 2025. It lost $964,000 or 15 cents per share for the quarter ended July 31, compared to a profit of $4.2 million or 63 cents per share for the same quarter last year.

Entergy solar array

near Brinkley online

Entergy Arkansas is now generating power at the electric utility's Walnut Bend facility near Brinkley, the company said Thursday.

The 100-megawatt solar array in Lee County is part of Entergy's strategy to generate more power relying on solar facilities. Walnut Bend will produce enough electricity to light 61,000 homes.

"Walnut Bend will be a valuable addition to our generation fleet, which, in turn, complements our diverse mix of generation sources that have been powering life in Arkansas for more than 100 years," Entergy Arkansas Chief Executive Officer Laura Landreaux said in a statement. "Our investments in these generation resources are a key part of keeping the rates our customers pay below the regional and national averages and enables us to provide reliable, affordable and sustainable service to our customers throughout the state."

Entergy now operates four solar arrays in Arkansas that together generate 281 megawatts. There are arrays in Stuttgart and near Searcy and Lake Village.

Arkansas Index ends

at 907.94, down 4.51

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, closed Thursday at 907.94, down 4.51 points.

"The S&P 500 rallied sharply to a new closing high led by the information technology sector as investors increased risk exposure following the decision Wednesday afternoon by the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates," said Leon Lants, managing director at Stephens Inc.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
