The City of Little Rock is partnering with Keep Little Rock Beautiful, a nonprofit focused on environmental quality in the city, to pick up trash on Saturday morning in Murray Park. The event starts at 9 a.m.
Volunteers will work in the park and along the Arkansas River to remove litter and debris for three hours. A limited supply of litter grabbers will be available, and volunteers are advised to bring their own if they have one.
“It’s really simple for all of us to do our part to keep Arkansas’s capital city clean,” Mayor Frank Scott, Jr. said in the press release. “The Great Arkansas Cleanup is an excellent opportunity to volunteer and make a difference at Murray Park.”
City Director Capi Peck will announce a new anti-litter campaign at the event, a public-private partnership that she told the Arkansas Times she has been developing this year. Peck represents Ward 4 on the city Board of Directors.
The Great Arkansas Cleanup is an annual statewide litter pickup led by Keep Arkansas Beautiful. A 2021 study by Keep America Beautiful, the parent organization of Keep Arkansas Beautiful and Keep Little Rock Beautiful, showed nearly 50 billion pieces of litter along United States roadways and waterways.
Most of Arkansas’s state parks also host cleanup events as part of the annual campaign and ask for volunteers to join the efforts.
Volunteers can RSVP to the Murray Park clean up by emailing [email protected]. T-shirts will also be available on a first come, first serve basis.
