LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – An organization has seen a vandalism problem multiple times, and officials want it to end.

Officials with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas say donation boxes they need have been set on fire at least three times in Little Rock.

According to the Little Rock Police incident report, the most recent arson on the donation box happened on Nov. 4 at 10320 Stagecoach Rd.

Daniel Leslie with American Textile Recycling Service, Arkansas division, said they provide the donation boxes, and each one can cost more than $1,000 to fix and replace. But the crime is also costing Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas.

BBBS Executive Director Kristin Koenigsfest says that for every pound of clothing and shoe collected, a portion of the proceeds goes to the organization to help fund their programs.

“It is a detriment to the funding that we receive for our programs.”

Koenigsfest added they can receive anywhere from $2,500 to $3,000 monthly through the donation program.

Koenigsfest continued, “For us, it’s month operation funding that we can use to help us continue in our mission of creating and supporting one-on-one matches in central Arkansas.”

Leslie and Koenigsfest both say they hope the vandalism stops so they can continue their mission of helping children and families.

“Please stop. You [the people responsible] are hurting this organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas, the kids that they are working with, and organization,” Leslie said.
