Babar Azam wrote his name in the history books during Pakistan’s first game in the 2024 T20 World Cup against the United States of America (USA) at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Babar broke the long-standing world record of Virat Kohli as he held Pakistan’s innings together amid a batting collapse.

Pakistan Cricket Team captain Babar Azam wrote his name in the history books during their first game in the T20 World Cup 2024 clash against the United States of America (USA) at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Thursday (June 6).
Babar had a tough time in the middle after USA captain Monak Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first as the top order collapsed. The Men in Green lost the wickets of Mohammad Rizwan, Usman Khan, and Fakhar Zaman in the powerplay and managed to make just 46 runs in the first nine overs, with Babar having just nine runs on the board after playing 23 balls.
However, Babar and Shadab Khan got a move on from the 10th over of the game and got Pakistan’s innings back on track with a 72-run partnership. Babar made a knock of 44 in 43 balls.

Babar Azam Breaks Virat Kohli’s Word Record
In the 11th over of the game, Babar hit a boundary that helped him cross the 15-run mark and, in the process, broke Virat Kohli’s long-standing world record. Babar has now become the highest run-getter in the history of T20I cricket.
After managing to make just one run against Ireland in India’s opening T20 World Cup game, Kohli has a tally of 4038 runs in 118 matches (110 catches) at an average of 51.11 and a strike rate of 137.95. Meanwhile, Babar has an average of 41.34 and a strike rate of 129.82. Babar, Kohli, and Rohit Sharma are the only players with more than 4000 runs in T20I cricket in history.
