Florida is fun!
For the second year in a row, Florida ranks in personal finance company WalletHub’s top five “most fun” U.S. states. And this year, Florida tops the list in first place.
On WalletHub’s 2023 list of the “most fun” U.S. states, Florida ranked in second place and California took first place. This year, they swapped places, with California placing second.
Also last year, Florida had two cities (Orlando and Miami) that ranked higher on WalletHub’s “most fun cities” list than both Los Angeles and New York City.
Here’s why Florida took first place on WalletHub’s list this year, unseating California as “the most fun state.”
What is the most fun state in the U.S.?
Florida reigns this year as WalletHub’s “most fun” U.S. state of 2024.
To rank the most fun states in the country, WalletHub compared each state across 26 metrics in two categories: Entertainment and recreation and nightlife.
California followed in second place, Nevada took third place (also one ranking higher than in 2023), New York took fourth place and Colorado slid into fifth.
Here are WalletHub’s top 10 most fun U.S. states of 2024:

Why is Florida a fun state?
“Florida is the most fun state in 2024, leading the country when it comes to the number of restaurants, amusement parks, arcades and music festivals per capita,” WalletHub’s study says.
“But even if those particular activities aren’t of interest to you, Florida has the third-most attractions per capita, and the sixth-best variety of arts, entertainment and recreation establishments.”
Florida also ranked 12th for the best weather overall, first for the most marinas per capita and the second-most miles of shoreline.
“Finally, the Florida government spends a lot on parks and recreation, the eighth-most per capita,” the study says.
Last year, Florida took 11th place in the nightlife category and this year, the Sunshine State moved up quite a bit, to third place in the same category.
Florida also placed in the top five rankings in the entertainment and recreation category, taking second place.
