Elon Musk is capping off the year as America’s wealthiest person, according to the annual Forbes 400. And he recently got even richer, reaching $400 billion in net worth.

Forbes ranking of the nation’s richest people placed the SpaceX founder, controversial X owner and President-elect Donald Trump ally in the top spot. The list, comprising the likes of Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, includes a sizable California representation: The state can claim more than 20% of those featured on the ranking.

Advances in technology and successes in real estate are among what has made the following individuals California’s top 10 richest people on the Forbes 400. Here’s who they are and their net worth. Forbes said its “estimates are a snapshot of each member’s wealth” as of Sept. 1.

Now that we know some of the richest people to call California home, where are the wealthiest places in the state?

A study by SmartAsset found that the five wealthiest counties in California are San Mateo County, Santa Clara County, Marin County, City and County of San Francisco and Alameda County.

Earlier this year, California earned another accolade. It is home to the most Fortune 500 companies in America, the first time since 2014, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office.
