It’s hard to remember now, but in 2004, Basketball USA was in a ditch. The team had only managed bronze at the Athens Olympics, despite taking Alan Iverson, Tim Duncan, Carmelo Anthony and two rising but young stars in Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.
Also on that team: Duke great Carlos Boozer.
Fast forward to 2024 and his son, Cameron, is on the U17 National Team and he’s doing very well this summer.
Team USA is rolling over everyone so far. On Friday, the US beat Canada by 51.
Keep in mind that Canada (Okay, Toronto but still) has been producing great talent lately. You don’t have to look far to see how many solid Canadians are in the NBA these days. It’s impressive.
His twin brother Cayden is on the team too and he’s racking up assists and playing like the solid point guard that he is.
The US is in the FIBA finals against Italy on Sunday, having hammered New Zealand 145-65. Normally the games get tighter as you go on but it works for us.
