According to a recent analysis, Colorado leads when it comes to states that are most interested and open to microdosing and psychedelics based on search results of residents. Oregon and Vermont also rank in the top three after Colorado.
Given the fact that both Colorado and Oregon have legalized the use of psilocybin, better known as “magic mushrooms,” these findings are hardly surprising.
However, the analysis, conducted by mushroom spore specialists SporesMD, which analyzed more than 900 search terms related to psychedelics over the past 12 months in the U.S., is worth noting as it indicates the states most receptive to the use of microdosing and psychedelics.
At the other end of the scale, Mississippi ranked the lowest when it comes to residents interested in microdosing and psychedelics, followed by Louisiana and Iowa.
Notable findings of the report include:
*For Colorado, the state averaged 1,557 searches per 100,000 residents each month, which is 53%higher than the national average of 1,015 searches per 100,000 people;
*The most popular terms Colorado searched for were ‘dmt,’ ‘shrooms’ and ‘what is ketamine’;
*Oregon had an average of 1,502 monthly searches per 100,000 people—48% above the US average;
*Mississippi registered a monthly average of only 661 searches per 100,000 residents – 35% below the national average;
*The second least interested state, Louisiana found people searching 21% less than normal, at only 802 average monthly searches per 100,000 residents.
SporesMD also studied their internal sales data to identify the states that purchased the most psilocybin spore related products to see if these figures correlate with the ranking. The percentage of orders from each state were then compared against the state’s population as a percentage of America overall.
For example, findings revealed Vermont residents contributed to 0.65% of the orders, which is more than three times larger than the 0.19% that its population makes up of the country.
Likewise, those in Alaska were responsible for 0.33% of the purchases, which is a 50% increase from the 0.22% that it makes up of the US population.
This data coincides with these two states ranking in the top ten, as they show significant interest as both make up considerably more of the orders than they do of the population.
On the overall findings, Anthony Bautista, CEO of SporesMD, said in a statement,
“It’s interesting to see the states most into microdosing and psychedelics, and how this compares to our sales data. This could reflect how open-minded residents are to the concept of psychedelic trips and their preference for how they experience this.”
The data was gathered via Google Keyword Planner, which provided nationwide and state-specific searches for over 900 keywords and phrases related to psychedelics and microdosing, such as ‘magic mushrooms for sale,’ ‘microdosing shrooms,’ and ‘psilocybin microdosing treatment.’
