GUEST OPINION: Celebrating the Heart of Olympic City USA | Opinion

Fresh from an extraordinary performance at the Paris Games, Team USA has once again proven itself as a global powerhouse in Olympic and Paralympic competitions.

The success of our athletes on the world stage is a testament to the tireless work happening right here in Colorado Springs. As the home the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee and 26 National Governing Bodies (NGBs), our city is the beating heart of the systems that foster, train and support these champions. Their victories are built on the foundation laid by the dedicated organizations and individuals based in Olympic City USA.

The Olympic and Paralympic NGBs are at the heart of what makes Colorado Springs a global hub for elite sports. From USA Swimming to USA Wrestling, from USA Hockey to USA Cycling, from USA Shooting to the US Association of Blind Athletes, these organizations form the foundation of excellence that powers Team USA. Their relentless dedication ensures our athletes are not just competing on the world stage but excelling.

Every day, these NGBs work tirelessly to develop and support athletes who embody the very best of our nation. From identifying young talent to providing top-tier coaching, resources, and training opportunities, their work transforms dreams into reality. Their expertise, vision and unyielding pursuit of excellence allow the United States to consistently field the most successful delegation of Olympic and Paralympic athletes in the world.

Their efforts are deeply rooted in our community. Colorado Springs is home to not only the athletes but also the administrators, coaches, and staff who devote their lives to advancing sport. The presence of these NGBs enriches our city culturally and economically, bringing events, conferences, and inspiration to our region.

Moreover, these organizations embody the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect, principles that resonate far beyond athletic competition. Their work inspires us all — athletes and nonathletes alike — to strive for greatness in our own lives.
