Lauren Boebert defeats Trisha Calvarese in Colorado 4th District race

Lauren Boebert has won a third term representing Colorado in the U.S. House of Representatives, but this time in a different district.

Boebert, a Republican representing Colorado's 3rd Congressional District right now, defeated her closest competitor, Democrat Trisha Calvarese, for the 4th Congressional District seat in eastern Colorado, according to The Associated Press.

As of about 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, she had about 53% of the votes to Calvarese's 43%. Libertarian Hannah Goodman had 2% of the votes, Approval Voting candidate Frank Atwood had 1%, and Unity Party candidate Paul Fiorino had less than a half a percent.

Boebert is a self-described America First Republican who has been one of Donald Trump's most ardent supporters. She said her top issues are securing the U.S.'s southern border, protecting the state's water and the oil and gas industry, and stopping the "reckless government spending of Bidenomics."

Boebert announced in late 2023 that she would not run again in her current district in order to pursue the seat held by Republican Rep. Ken Buck, who left Congress in early 2024. He cited concerns with the direction of the Republican Party and efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Republican Greg Lopez gained the seat temporarily after a June special election.

The 4th District has a greater ratio of Republicans than the 3rd District. Had Boebert stayed in the 3rd District race, she would have faced another battle with Democrat Adam Frisch, who came close to defeating her in 2022 — the margin was 0.2%.

Boebert will retain the 4th District seat for Republicans but didn't gain as much support as Buck had during his tenure. He received more than 60% of the votes in the district in races dating back to 2014.

Boebert was elected to her current seat in the 3rd District with 51% of the votes in 2020 and 50% in 2022.
