Total drilling activity in North America remained unchanged for the week ending Aug. 9 with a total of 805 rigs working, reported Baker Hughes. A 2-rig gain in the United States offset a 2-rig loss in Canada.
The total rig count in North America is down 39 rigs from the same time last year.
The number of rotary rigs working in US inland waters was unchanged at 0, down 4 from the year-ago period. Offshore activity decreased by a single unit to leave 19 rigs running for the week. Onshore activity increased by 3 rigs to 569 rigs working.
Texas and Wyoming each gained 2 rigs to end the week with 276 and 14 rigs running, respectively. Pennsylvania and Colorado each gained a single unit for respective counts of 21 and 14 this week. Louisiana dropped 2 rigs for a total of 38 rigs working. New Mexico and Ohio saw single-unit declines to end the week with rig counts of 107 and 10, respectively.
Canada had 217 rigs working, down week-over-week, but up 27 units from the same period last year.
