Earlier this week, Athlon Sports writer Steve Corder published a now-debunked story that alleged head coach Deion Sanders’ Colorado football program of fostering a violent culture.
Not long after, former Colorado cornerback Cormani McClain, who was portrayed negatively in the story, called the allegations false on his Instagram account. Current Buffs Camden Dempsey, Jimmy Horn Jr. and Kaleb Mathis also later expressed their frustrations on the apparent hit piece.
In journalism, credibility is everything. And by all measures, Corder has none. The Instagram account linked to his Athlon profile is extremely unprofessional, a quick Google search will make you question if he’s even a real person, and his reporting tactics raise countless red flags.
Colorado social media hit a tipping point on Wednesday when Corder appeared on the Dan Le Batard Show and doubled down on his sketchy reporting.
Here’s a look at how social media reacted:
Jimmy Horn Jr. reacts to the clip

When asked about why the story hasn’t been picked up nationally and how he vetted the story he says he talked to players who transferred and then put the dots together.

Deion Sanders seemingly touches on the story
When a person u don’t know talks about a person u do know what’s the goal of the person u don’t know? When a person u do know responds to a person u don’t know now that person is known. I choose to keep that person u don’t know Unknown and Thirsty to be known. #Wisdom #CoachPrime

Cormani McClain calls the story a lieu0022Journalistic malpracticeu0022
This is journalistic malpractice. He wouldn’t know about that though because he’s not actually a journalist. He writes for a fan blog. No clue how he got the job. He has no ties and lives in North Carolina. This is a total indictment of anything @AthlonSports does. Brutal.
