Two Colorado parks were recently recognized for their stunningly beautiful views, joining a list that includes a Hawaiian coastline, Alaskan glaciers, the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, and the Las Vegas Strip.
Garden of the Gods State Park just up the road from Pueblo and Maroon Bells in Aspen were the two Colorado places included on Mixbook’s list of the 100 most breathtaking views in America, which was released Aug. 19.
Mixbook, a popular photo book company, surveyed 3,000 Americans to create its 2024 list of the 100 most photo-worthy views in the United States.
Where did Maroon Bells rank on the list?
Maroon Bells, located 10 miles from Aspen, ranked 35th on the list.
“The 14,000-foot bell-shaped peaks truly capture the beauty of the Rocky Mountains,” according to an April 2024 article about the vista posted to colorado.com, a website run by the state’s tourism office. “Anchored by a stunning reflective lake, Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak tower over the area, creating an oasis of natural wonder that captivates visitors of this unique destination year-round.”
“Hiking trails provide access to plenty of these photo-worthy scenes in the White River National Forest, including hypnotizing fields of wildflowers and anglers seeking catches in tranquil Maroon Lake,” the colorado.com article states. “Fall colors make it an especially dreamy time to visit, when the Maroon Bells are cradled by cloud-speckled blue skies and golden aspen groves.”
From Pueblo, it takes about 4 hours and 15 minutes to drive to Maroon Bells.
Where did Garden of the Gods rank?
Garden of the Gods State Park in Colorado Springs ranked 45th on the list.
Less than an hour from Pueblo, Garden of the Gods State Park is a “unique biological melting pot where the grasslands of the Great Plains meet the pinyon-juniper woodlands characteristic of the American Southwest and merge with the mountain forest of the 14,115-foot Pikes Peak,” according to visitcos.com, Colorado Springs’ tourism website.
Along with hiking, the state park offers bike tours, rock climbing, “adventure challenges,” which are described as similar to outdoor escape rooms, group tours and horseback riding. The park also offers self-guided tours that can be listened to through headphones or car speakers.
