Liverpool have players representing their nations all over the map this summer in friendlies and both Euro 2024 and Copa America 2024.

The focus of this piece is too look at two Reds competing at Copa America who got their respective tournaments off to different starts on Monday.

Let’s take a look at how Luis Diaz and Alison Becker got on for Colombia and Brazil respectively.

Colombia continued their winning ways and they recorded their third straight victory over Paraguay in Copa America competition.

Luis Diaz got the start as always on the left as he was at his dribbling best once again. It was not a vintage dominant display from Lucho, but he was more than involved in a lot of the attack.

The Colombians had nearly 70% possession which meant that Diaz had a lot of time to try and influence things as best he could. However, he was caught out in possession a lot in this match as he lost possession 21 times, an astounding number.

He completed 14/21 passes and won only 3/16 ground duels so his overall game was clearly lacking to being the tournament. Luckily, his teammates picked up their levels to help get the three points on the board.

If this was an audtiion for Barcelona, Diaz will surely have to improve going forward and I expect him too. It’s not easy being the main man at a big event like this one, so I assume he will step up next time.

While Diaz enjoyed a winning start to his 2024 Copa America journey, Alisson started in goal for Brazil as they played out a frustrating 0-0 draw with Costa Rica.

Brazil dominated the shot department 19-2 and the Costa Ricans did not force the Liverpool No. 1 into a single save the entire match.

Alisson was a perfect 20/20 on his passes including going 2/2 on his trademark long ball pass. Outside of that, it was a very uneventful day at the office for Alisson who will be ruing his teammates missed opportunities.

There will obviously be sterner challenges as they progress further which I still fully expect them too. Alisson will be raring to go when those chances do arrive though as he must be eager for action.

Luis Diaz and Colombia are next in action on Friday 6/28 against Costa Rica and Alisson and Brazil take on Paraguay later the same day.
