The United States of America (USA) managed to pull off a shocking upset when they defeated Pakistan in the Super Over in the T20 World Cup 2024 match at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, on Thursday, June 6.

The memorable victory for the associate team came after a high-quality bowling performance which paralyzed Pakistan's top order and restricted them to a score of 159.

Chasing the target, USA managed to tie the scores at the end of the regulation 20 overs, and further extending the game to a Super Over, where they successfully defended a target of 19 runs, leading to many experts terming it as one of the biggest upsets in the tournament's history.

While the defeat to West Indies at the 2019 World Cup is not usually termed as an upset, it was a major defeat in the context of the tournament, given that the Caribbean team finished ranking 9th out of the 10th teams, winning just 2 out of their 8 matches, one against Pakistan and the other against Afghanistan.

Pakistan will take on arch-rivals India in their next T20 World Cup 2024 game at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, on June 9.
