Texas celebrities we'd pick as America's mascot for 2024 Olympics

We love Snoop Dogg as much as the rest of the United States, but there are few Texans we think could do the job just as well.

Snoop Dogg is a ‘gnarly fan’ of Team U.S.A.

Former Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez talks about Snoop Dogg’s constant support for U.S.A. gymnastics.

Snoop Dogg has captured widespread attention with his prominent role at the 2024 Paris Olympics, notably carrying the torch during the opening ceremony. His involvement has sparked playful commentary, with some dubbing him the “Face of the Olympics” and others claiming him as the United States’ unofficial mascot.

From his hilarious reaction to Katie Ledecky’s impressive win in the women’s swimming competition and his appearance in a full equestrian suit to his grand entrance in a custom Noah Lyles-themed USA sweatsuit as fans cheered “Snoop, Snoop, Snoop!” the rapper has become a global treasure.

But we think some Texans, if up for the task, fit the bill and could do just as good a job. While it’s undoubtedly tough to match Snoop Dogg’s popularity and charisma, we believe these Texans’ personalities could make them strong contenders for the role.

Willie Nelson

The man, the myth, the legend — Willie Nelson is an obvious choice as he is already a de facto mascot for Texas. His distinctive voice, long braids, and penchant for unconventional activities have made him an iconic figure worldwide.

Notably, Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg share a long-lasting friendship that began with a 4/20 celebration in Amsterdam.

Matthew McConaughey

While he may not actually take the top spot for America’s mascot, there’s no denying that Matthew McConaughey would bring an extra layer of excitement and charisma to the Olympics. His unique blend of humor, charm, and one of the most recognizable accents in the world would certainly enhance the event. (Plus, we know he’s there already!)

Perhaps they should consider giving him a role as a commentator for future games. Alright, alright, alright.

Beyoncé

Beyoncé may not have the same playful demeanor as the others, but she is undeniably a globally recognized star from Texas. With her powerful stage presence and engaging personality, if her involvement were as consistent and dynamic as Snoop Dogg’s, she would undoubtedly attract just as much attention from fans and media.

As for Beyoncé’s relationship with Snoop Dogg, they have interacted publicly and appear to have mutual respect for each other, but there isn’t a widely known close personal friendship between them.

Post Malone

Perhaps one of the most humble celebrities in the business, Post Malone has recently expanded into new ventures, impressing audiences at country music award shows and even making headlines at the Super Bowl with his Dallas Cowboys jacket.

With his charming personality and sense of humor, why not see him bring his unique flair to the Olympics? His presence could add a fresh and engaging element to the event, capturing attention and entertaining fans with his distinctive style.

Patrick Mahomes

Recently rising to fame, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes — three-time Super Bowl champion and best friend of Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce — would be a strong candidate for the role due to his high profile and engaging personality.

Sandy Cheeks

Sandy Cheeks may not be real, but she’s arguably the most reputable cartoon character from Texas. Known for her humorous and vibrant personality, she already made a notable appearance as a commentator on the Nickelodeon version of the 2024 Super Bowl. Her established reputation and comedic talent make her a fun and memorable choice for a role at the Olympics.
