November 2024 marked the end of the Presidential election but not the end of the country’s unyielding patriotism. Americans hailed our veterans with due respect and appreciation for Veterans Day 2024. Parades marched through the streets; American flags waved to salute the few who sacrificed for the many. Photographer Richard Burkhart of the Savannah Morning News recalled photographing the Savannah Veterans Day Parade on November 11, “When I’m photographing a parade, I’m always looking for an interesting moment or something different. A trolley caught my attention during the annual Savannah Veteran’s Day parade. Participants representing the Disabled Veterans of America were riding on board and many were waving small flags out the window. Two children were riding along with the veterans and from my point of view the flags lined up perfectly to frame one of the young passengers as the trolley passed by.” Richard’s parade photo perfectly embodied the respect for Veterans that transcends generations.
