The USA cricket team has been enjoying a dream run in their debut T20 World Cup. They were pooled in Group A alongside India, Pakistan, Ireland and Canada. The USA beat Canada and Pakistan in the group stage before securing one point from the rain-affected game against Ireland.
With five points on the card, the co-hosts qualified for the Super Eight round as the second team from Group A. They will now compete against some powerhouses like South Africa, England and the West Indies to make their place in the knockouts.
The USA will square off against South Africa in their opening Super Eight fixture of this T20 World Cup. The big-ticket contest will be hosted at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Saint George on June 19. The USA demonstrated their strength across all departments during the group stage. They chased down a hefty target of 195 runs against Canada before restricting Pakistan to 159 in the next game. The USA bowling unit looked impressive against India as well but failed to defend a 111-run target.
South Africa finished at the top of Group B to book their place in the Super Eight round. The Proteas remained unbeaten in the previous stage. Their batting unit struggled a bit on a few occasions including the last game against Nepal. Batting first, South Africa managed only 115 runs. Their bowlers ultimately held their nerves to notch a one-run win in the low-scoring clash.
