NEW YORK— The World Jewish Congress (WJC) today announced that David Koschitzky is assuming the role of Chair of WJC North America, replacing Evelyn Sommer who will become WJC North America Honorary Chair.
WJC President Ronald S. Lauder commented: “We are delighted to have David join the WJC Steering Committee as WJC North America Chair. His commitment to Jewish causes, his passion and his enthusiasm will be of great benefit to the global Jewish community, at a time when Jews and Jewish communities around the world are facing tremendous challenges”, adding, “I would also like to thank, most sincerely, and pay tribute to Evelyn Sommer for her decades of engagement with the WJC. Evelyn has been a true stalwart — a lay leader who has tirelessly advocated on behalf of Israel and world Jewry for over fifty years, most notably in the corridors of the United Nations. We are very happy that Evelyn will remain involved in our work and that we will continue to benefit from her invaluable experience and wise counsel.”
David Koschitzky commented: “I am truly honored to be joining the WJC family and taking on this role at a critical moment for Israel and for Jewish communities worldwide. Our global community is facing unprecedented challenges, but I firmly believe in the strength and resilience that have always defined us. David Koschitzky previously served as Chair of the Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) of Canada and as Chair of the Board of Trustees of Keren Heysod-UIA.
WJC North America is one of the seven Regional Affiliates of the World Jewish Congress, comprising the Jewish communities of Canada (The Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs), Mexico (The Central Committee of the Jewish Community of Mexico) and the USA (WJC American Section Inc.).
