Julia Buxton is a Professor of Comparative Politics at Central European University, teaching and researching on drug policy and enforcement impacts, violence, conflict and conflict sensitive policy interventions. She is also a Senior Research Associate at the Global Drugs Policy Observatory at the University of Swansea. Previously, she has held research, teaching and/or management positions in Peace Studies at the University of Bradford, Georgetown University (School of Foreign Service) and Kingston University. Julia is a Region Head (Latin America) at the political risk firm Oxford Analytica.
Julia undertook field, consultancy and research work in Latin America, Venezuela, Pakistan with the British Council, Nepal and in Sweden with Sida. Her current research projects are focused on Venezuelan migrants and the coordination of public health responses (Peru and Colombia, PI Juan Arroyo, Lima) and on the gendered impacts of drug policy (OSF grant) with regional workshops in Budapest and Accra. She was the director/team leader and course contributor for UK FCO Chevening and Ministry of Defence professional and short training courses in the past.
