Texas at the 2024 LLWS: Meet the Boerne Little League team
Meet Team Texas from Boerne. Discover its journey from a small town to the grand stage in Williamsport at the 2024 Little League World Series.
For the second straight year, a Texas team fell short in the Little League World Series U.S. title game, but Southwest Region champions aren’t done yet.
Boerne Little League will play the Latin American champions Sunday for third place at the 2024 Little League Baseball World Series.
The Texas team suffered its first loss Saturday to Florida, a squad the Southwest Region champions beat earlier in the tournament. Now, the Southeast representatives will play the Asia-Pacific champions, Chinese Taipei, Sunday in the Little League World Series title game after Texas meets Venezuela in the third-place game.
Boerne jumped out to a 4-0 lead during Saturday’s U.S. title game. But Texas suffered a string of pitcher injuries and couldn’t recover after Florida pushed across nine runs over the final two innings. This was a stark contrast from Monday’s game, when Lake Mary Little League managed just one run against Boerne Little League.

Last year, it was Needville Little League that made a run to the championship, before losing two straight games.

2024 Little League World Series bracket
The LLBWS has two brackets, one for the 10 United States regional champions, and one for the 10 International Regional champions.
Where is Boerne?
Boerne is about 30 miles northwest of San Antonio and 90 miles southwest of Austin. It’s the seat of Kendall County and has a population of more than 20,000.
The Boerne Little League Majors All-Star Team won the Southwest Region on Aug. 6 by beating Louisiana, 6-3, on the strength of a grand slam, according to the Boerne Star.
Why is Texas playing Venezuela?
Venezuela was pushed to the elimination bracket in a loss Monday to Japan. Like the Lake Mary team, Cardenales came through the back-side of the bracket to overcome a team that previously beat them: Venezuela defeated Japan on Thursday.
But the Latin American champs were no match for the Asia Pacific champions in the international title game. Chinese Taipei remain undefeated with a 4-1 win and has outscored opponents 36-4 through its five wins. Taiwan looks well on its way to a record 18th LLWS title, however, a scrappy Florida side has already taken down an undefeated squad in Texas. (This the ninth title game for Florida team, but the state not has yet won the whole tournament.)
Texas was the last unbeaten U.S. team in the tournament and had three rather comfortable wins to this point. Ace Julian Hurst helped Texas to a 4-0 lead against Florida, but after he left with shoulder discomfort, Florida’s bats came alive. Now, Texas is hoping to salvage a bronze finish Sunday after burning through several pitchers Saturday.
LLWS pitching limits
No player can toss more than 85 pitches in a day and no player can pitch three days in a row, regardless the number of pitches thrown. Here is how much rest is required for Little Leaguers ages 14 and under:
If a player pitches 66 or more pitches in a day, four days of rest is required.If a player pitches 51-65 pitches in a day, three days of rest is required.If a player pitches 36-50 pitches in a day, two days of rest is required.If a player pitches 21-35 pitches in a day, one day of request is required.If a player pitches 1-20 pitches in a day, no rest is required.
