On 19 and 20 September, AFP took part in the annual General Assembly of ADEPA (Asociación de Entidades Periodísticas Argentinas), the influential association of Argentine media, held in Posadas, in the north of the country.
AFP was represented by Philippe Bernès-Lasserre, Argentina and Paraguay Bureau Chief; Nadia Nasanovsky, Digital Investigation Training Co-ordinator for Latin America; and Lorena Ponce de León, Commercial Manager for Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay.
The main topics were the challenges of diversifying content, the hunt for new audiences, artificial intelligence, and the tense media situation under President Milei. Delegates also attended an AFP conference on its experience and digital investigation network.
ADEPA noted that the online digital investigation workshop led by Nadia Nasanovsky last May was its most successful training this year, attracting more than 140 participants.
On-site in Posadas, Nadia then led a new workshop, this time in person, for representatives of around ten media outlets preselected by ADEPA – newspapers, television stations, and websites – mainly from the provinces, including those from Misiones (Posadas).
“Reverse search, research methods, various tools… The workshop is very useful, especially for those of us already working in the fight against disinformation, and even more so for other media less familiar with the subject. I particularly liked discovering the InVid-WeVerify extension, which makes what we used to do manually much easier,” said one participant, Sergio Padula, Content Director of the leading digital outlet in the province, Misiones Online (one million social media subscribers and 400,000 daily website visitors).
