The Bahamas men’s national basketball team suffered a 97-74 loss to the United States of America in their second straight game in the second window of the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 Qualifier.
After losing to Cuba on Friday in Cuba, The Bahamas travelled to Washington DC to take on the USA team last night.
Playing out of Pool D, The Bahamas is now sitting in last place with a 1-3 win-loss record and will need to win their final two games in the final window, hosting Cuba and the USA on February 20 and 23.
The United States, coached by Stephen Silas, Patrick Ewing and Jonathan Smart, opened a 25-19 first-quarter lead and they never relinquished it, going up 52-41 at the half. They extended it to 68-52 and used a 29-22 spurt in the fourth to seal the deal.
The Bahamas, coached by John Lucas III, Mychel Thompson and Moses Johnson, made a slight adjustment to its line-up and ended up with four players in double figures.
Tavario Miller paced the attack with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Samuel Hunter had 14 points and three rebounds, Eron Gordon – brother of NBA player Eric Gordon – had 12 points and four rebounds and Godfrey Rolle III finished with 10 points.
For the United States, Jvonta Stuart led four other players in double figures with 21 points and three rebounds. Jamhius Ramsey had 19 points and three rebounds; Malik Williams and David Stockton both scored 14 points with six and rebounds respectively and Paul Watson Jr chipped in with 10 points.
