An international summit to discuss reparations for the transatlantic slave trade is taking place this week in Barbados.
Government officials, representatives from the African Union, CARICOM, Latin America, as well as several think tanks and academic organizations are attending.
The organizers of this historic meeting say the wealth accumulated during the slave trade gave rise to industrial revolutions, financial institutions, and generational family estates – many of which still thrive to this day.
Al Jazeera’s Manuel Rapalo reports from Bridgetown, Barbados.
