Rihanna took to Instagram to share a joke about the 2024 election, but it seems that some people may have interpreted it more seriously than intended.
In the Instagram video shared on Monday, November 4, the 36 year-old singer wrote on top of the clip of her staring out a car window, “POV: me trying to sneak into the polls with my sons passport #votecauseicant.” Rihanna – whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty – accompanied the post with a bold caption that read, “when protecting p**sies and firing p**sies can happen all in one vote.”
While Riri may not be eligible to cast a vote in the upcoming election (she is a Barbadian citizen), she’s definitely not afraid to make her political views known, urging her fans to make their way to the polls on Election day, Tuesday, November 5. The “Pon De Replay” hitmaker doubled down in the comments, replying to many haters who don’t agree with her support of Vice President Kamala Harris.

After one critic wrote, “Illegal voting is a crime. Maybe she should be arrested for trying,” Rihanna simply retorted, “Shut up Karen.” The slang term is often used to describe someone who is acting like an entitled, middle-class white woman.
Another user wrote, “That attitude is why we want to make America [great] again. You want to cheat to win. So disappointing.” Rihanna responded with a cheeky, “Lol! When yall stop burning ballot boxes come check me.”
Referencing the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot, the “Umbrella” songstress questioned one user’s commitment to security, stating, “Where were you in Jan 6 sis?,” further reminding them, “Stick to your discounted crotch. We out here fighting for its rights!”
The music superstar moved to the U.S. from Barbados in 2005 to pursue her music career. Since then, she has risen to become one of the best-selling artists in history while also establishing a billion-dollar beauty business here in the States. The beauty mogul consistently uses her platform to voice political opinions, previously criticizing former president Donald Trump.
