The Copa America holders face fancied opposition in the last eight at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo but we are backing La Roja to be competitive

Colombia have been one of the most impressive sides in this season’s Copa America recording three wins from their three group matches.

Los Cafeteros are firm favourties to triumph in their quarter-final clash against Chile, although La Roja have been something of bogey side for Colombia in recent years.

Colombia remain without striker Luis Muriel, but otherwise Carlos Queiroz has few problems heading into this last eight clash.

Chile’s Gary Medel picked up a muscle injury against Uruguay and remains a doubt, while Arturo Vidal has also struggled with injury in the tournament and unlikely to be 100 per cent even if he plays.

Before the start of the tournament, there were few hopes that an ageing Chile side could come anywhere near recording a hat-trick of Copa America triumphs.

However, the group stage showed that Reinaldo Rueda’s side remain fierce competitors and their solitary loss in the competition came by a 1-0 scoreline against a strong Uruguay side in a game La Roja could well have won.

The 2015 and 2016 champions are likely to make life tough for Colombia, and could well become the first team in the tournament to score against Queiroz’s men – who have so far won their three games to nil. 

Tips and predictions

Chile’s 1-0 defeat against Uruguay in their final group agme was the first time in nine matches La Roja had failed to score and they created more than enough chances to find the back of the net against La Celeste.

The holders are priced at 11/20 (1.55) to score a goal, while both teams to score is offered at a healthy looking 53/50 (2.06). Chile have scored but conceded in six of their last eight matches, and a repeat looks to offer value this weekend.
